Fraction Vocabulary
Fraction- Any part of a group, number or whole.
Numerator- The number above the line of a fraction, showing number of parts of a whole.
Denominator- The bottom of a fraction.
The number of groups the whole is divided into.
Fraction Notation- A rational number of the form a/b where a is the numerator and b is the denominator.
Equivalent- Having the same value or amount.
Equivalent fractions- Two or more fractions that have the same value or amount.
Proper Fraction- A fraction smaller than one whole.
The numerator is smaller than the denominator.
Improper Fraction- A fraction larger than one whole.
The numerator is larger than the denominator.
Mixed Number- A number written as a whole number and a fraction.
Simplify a Fraction- To reduce the numerator and the denominator in the fraction to the smallest numbers possible.
Factor- A whole number that divides exactly into another number.
A number that multiplies with another number to make a third number.
Greatest Common Factor- The greatest number that will divide two or more other numbers exactly.
Least Common Denominator- The smallest number in which the denominator will divide evenly.
Multiple- the result of a number being added to itself a number of times.
Least Common Multiple- The smallest number that is the multiple of two or more other numbers.
Reciprocal- One or tow numbers whose product is 1.
Multiplicative inverse of a number (except 0).
